Ok, I'm a lazy journal writer. I'll admit it. Anyheck, since the flu is going around all over the place, and my teacher got sick, all my classes got cancelled and I have nothing to do... So I decided to go through my Sapporo pictures...though I only took like 15, but they're up on the site. Next, I found a clip I made from our last tkd tournament in Stanford. Its just a bunch of instances where I scored some points. |

| We went snowboarding in Geihoku which is...somewhere north of here. Yeah... Anyway! It was way fun. Went up with about 9 other JETs on the the bus and got there around 8 in the morn! Blehh. But thats cool, cause the snow was nice and my rental board and boots were working nicely.

The mountain seemed small as there were lots of other people on just about every run. That was kinda sucky.
I ate it a couple of times and I can barely walk today because of the soreness and contorted limbs, but the hilite of the day was at the end when I discovered I lost my wallet somewhere on the mountain. I don't know why on earth I thought I would need to buy something on the slopes, but my wallet was in a pocket with the zipper open. Sooooo stupid!
Luckily some skier found it on the first run we went down and had turned it in. Everything was in it even!! I had over a hundred bucks in it too! Japan totally rocks. | comments: Leave a comment |

So, just got back from an island called Fukuoka where we went to see gypsies. No wait, they were sumo wrestlers. Big sweaty sumo wrestlers. It was actually damn fun to watch. I went with a group of about 25 other JETs and we all bussed over to the island. I only took about 3~4 hours so not that bad of a trip. We all slept anyway since it was freakin early. |

Did I mention these guys are really huge? The match basically starts with the two fat guys facing eachother with much leg slapping and squatting. After about 4 runs of squatting, standing and slapping, they finally squat and face eachother for the bout. As soon as both fighters touch their fists to the ground they go at eachother, trying to push or throw their opponent out of the circle. Some of the moves these massive behemoths pulled off were actually quite impressive. They can really move when they want to. |
The last match was way cool. As the last and toughest of the wrestlers went up, the whole audience started cheering and applauding. I'm not sure of the name of the victor, but when he won all the crowd started chucking their pillows (the lower seats had pillows to sit on) towards the ring. Some said it meant they approve of the new champion, or they disagree. No one was sure. I just think people like to throw pillows. |

We had a halloween party on Saturday at a pub called "China Town," which was kind of a pain, as many of us were asking where the china town area in the city was...which no one knew because there is none. The party was pretty cool though. I was sporting a beer bottle costume, while my friends with me were seals, and bizarre angels. There was a costume contest as well, however I didn't make the cut. There were guys like Austin Powers and creepy looking devils that got up there though. Fun stuff. We took a taxi back to my apartment around 4 maybe? And I managed to fit 6 people in my bedroom once again, by forming a wall-to-wall bed of all the foam pads I have. Nothing like having a bunch of costumed drunks pile into a small room and pass out. Yes, I truly feel like I have gained so much experience and culture since coming to Japan. ^^ Happy Halloween! |

| So in the nature of appealing to the sterotype that JETs are alcoholics, we had a get together this last weekend in Hiroshima City, where we gathered into teams of 2 and groups of 4 and proceeded to visit 8 or so bars. The point of this excercise was....well to drink, but also at each bar, there was a certain event to be done, such as a game of pool or darts. The winning team would receive however many points, and at the end of the night, the points are totaled up to declare a winner.
Pretty damn fun I must say. The whole deal was really well organized and all of the bars offered us some kind of sweet deal on drinks in exchange for bringing our mob of JETs in for a pick-me-up.
Sadly, my original partner couldn't make it, and my back-up was a no-show as well, so it was just me and myself against my opponent team of two. Yeah, I lost. I was actually kicking ass in billards at first, but then got distracted with booze and chatting with the other rummies.
Time flew by, so before the night was up we decided to skip some bars on the list, and headed to the huge gaming building full of all kinds o' good stuff. The top floor has batting and pitching cages, a place where you can drive golfballs into a net, and of course a plethora of video games are available on several other floors. Not to mention they serve beer!
From there things get kinda fuzzy, and according to witnesses, I apparently felt the need to start headbutting a vending machine at some point, though no one knows why, least of all me. Anyway, I brought about 5~6 people back to my apartment to crash which finally happened around 5am or so.
Yup, good times had by all. By the way, miso is a freakin awesome hangover remedy. Everyone needs to keep that stuff stocked up at home. Don't forget the hondashi to add to it. Essential.

| So the typhoon was a major disappointment. This was supposed to be far worse than any other before it, especially the one 2 months ago that knocked out the power who knows how many times...
So yeah. Big let down.
When a typhoon hits, normally the deal is that school classes are canceled on account of trains and transportation systems shutting down during the chaos. And these little 4 foot kids would be easily carried off if they attempted to walk during one of these typhoons. However, teachers must still come to the school and spend the day in the office room (filled with big glass windows just screaming to be broken I might add,) to do work and/or dodge flying objects and glass shrapnel. I guess most of us are big and grounded enough to risk the trek here.
However, being that I had 4 hours of extra work from a previous event, I was able to leave 4 hours early, and spend the rest of the day in the comfort of my own home on my sweet sofa, enjoying a frosty beer or three.
Kampai to that! | comments: Leave a comment |
